No other fleet of river cruise ships offers you a view of the world like Avalon Suite Ships,® featuring Avalon Panorama Suites℠. Thirty percent larger than the industry standard, they’re actually river cruising’s only Open–Air Balcony® — with nothing between you and the view.
No two travelers are alike—so Avalon would never expect you to enjoy the same cruise experiences as everyone else. Whether you like to paddle a kayak or paint a canvas, each day on an Avalon river cruise is an adventure of the mind, heart, or heart rate if you prefer.
Avalon shares the flavors of the world with the freshest local ingredients prepared by their talented chefs and served in your choice of venues on board. The Avalon FlexDining® approach to onboard dining experiences has tossed out the idea of restrictive seating times in limited settings.
Designed from the bottom up for comfort, space, and room to dream, each Avalon Suite Ship® consists of 80% Panorama Suites—offering the widest view in river cruising. Larger suites result in fewer passengers, so you’ll never feel crowded anywhere on board.
What to wear on an Avalon cruise?
With Avalon, your days are filled with exciting excursions and soaking up picture-perfect landscapes, so dress for enjoyment and practicality. Because weather can be unpredictable, layers are always recommended when out and about. Consider packing a small backpack or handbag for jackets and sweaters. And, of course, bring your favorite, most comfortable, walking or athletic shoes to keep your feet happy and your heart pumping.
Dinner attire on board is casual with typical guests donning open-neck shirts and slacks, skirts and dresses. Gentlemen who enjoy feeling sporty in sports coats, are welcome to pack them but they are not required. Some guests do prefer to dress up for celebratory evenings onboard including the Captain’s Reception or Farewell Dinner.
On Mekong, Ganges, Amazon, and Galápagos cruises, we recommend that guests forgo dressier attire completely due to warm, humid climates.
Additional notes to consider:
While Avalon isn’t interested in cramping your style with a dress code, some
excursions may require one (no knees or shoulders in some holy places; or no
shorts during some evening events in ports-of-call, for instance).
In addition, for your comfort and that of your fellow cruisers, we do request
that shorts not be worn in the Dining Room or Panorama Lounge in the evenings,
and if you fancy a dip in the whirlpool, bathing suits are worn only on the Sky
If you’re feeling fit for fun, we also want you to know that an Adventure Host will be your guide, at the ready for fitness activities, on all European cruises. Your host will not only lead daily workouts but can also

Are Avalon River Cruises handicap accessible?
Avalon Waterways makes reasonable attempts to accommodate the special needs of disabled and mobility-impaired travelers but is not responsible in the event it is unable to do so. Because they cannot provide individual assistance to travelers in many situations, and most of the transportation services are not equipped with wheelchair ramps, we recommend that you contact us to learn more about specific ships and/or destinations.
Are children welcome on board Avalon river cruises?
In Avalon’s many years of cruising experience, they have found that children under the age of eight typically are too young to fully enjoy a cruise vacation. Because of this and for the safety and enjoyment of all passengers, Avalon does not accept children under eight years of age. In addition, please note that there are no special arrangements or activities for children on Avalon’s ships.
When will I receive my digital travel documents?
