Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Freestyle Cruising?

Freestyle cruising is a concept pioneered by Norwegian Cruise Line. It does away with set schedules and lets passengers be flexibile with their vacation time including no fixed dining times and no pre-assigned seating or set dress codes, plus more dining options than every before.

  • What are some onboard activities unique to Norwegian Cruise Line?

Skyy® Vodka Ice Bar: Inspired by the ice hotels in Scandinavia, chill out in a 17° arctic chamber where the bar, walls, seats and glasses are all made from ice.

The Waterfront: Feel the warm sun and balmy ocean breezes along The Waterfront, a revolutionary quarter-mile oceanfront promenade.

The Plank: Walk on the wild side and take on The Plank, a thrilling experience as you ""walk the planl"" extending 8 feet over the side of the ship.

Deck Parties: Hit the deck and dance the night away at the most popular, exciting parties in cruising, including White Hot and Glow.

Broadway Entertainment: From acclaimed shows like Rock of Ages and Burn the Floor to Tony Award®-winning musical Million Dollar Quartet, find exclusive live entertainment only on Norwegian.

The Haven: A luxurious enclave at the top of the ship, The Haven by Norwegian is where contemporary elegance, personalized service and privacy combine to create a unique cruising experience.

  • What exactly is The Haven?

Hidden away at the top of the ship is The Haven by Norwegian®, an exclusive enclave—a ""ship within a ship""—with the most luxurious, well-appointed and spacious accommodations. Not only will you have access to all the ship has to offer, you’ll enjoy the personal service of a concierge and 24-hour butler throughout your entire stay.

  • What is the dress code on Norwegian Cruise Line?

When it comes to what to wear, you can go resort casual or get decked-out and look your best—it’s your call. That’s the freedom of Norwegian's Freestyle Cruising.

Cruise Casual: the Freedom of Freestyle Cruising Dress cruise casual anytime during the day, in the buffet and in most specialty restaurants. For women, it includes summer and casual dresses, skirts, regular or capri pants, shorts, jeans and tops. Khakis, jeans, shorts and casual shirts are fine for men. Swimwear is acceptable at the buffet and outdoor restaurant, but a shirt or a cover-up and footwear are required. Kids 12 and under are welcome to wear nice shorts in all restaurants.

Special Events: Theme Nights and Parties and the newest event, Norwegian's Night Out, is the perfect opportunity to get dressed up for an evening of cocktails, fine dining and great entertainment. You may also want to pack an all-white ensemble for Norwegian's iconic White Hot Party. They even have a special “Dress-Up or Not Night” - the perfect opportunity to get your portrait taken with your family, that special someone or even with the ship’s Captain.

Please Note: You should dress comfortablly, but tank tops for men, flip flops, baseball caps, visors and jeans that are overly faded, with holes or tears and worn below the hips are not permitted in main dining rooms or specialty restaurants.

  • How many suitcases can I bring?

Keep in mind that staterooms typically have limited storage, so creative packing is always suggested. Each person is allowed up to two pieces of personal luggage on board Norwegian ships, with each piece weighing a maximum of 50 pounds. However, if passengers are traveling by air, they need to check with the airline for specific restrictions.

  • Are there special cruise fares for children or infants?

Norwegian Cruise Line is committed to offering an unforgettable cruise experience for the entire family. Children can enjoy a variety of activities, events and programs including the newly redesigned Youth Program with age specific activities for infants, kids & teens.

On most sailings, there are significantly discounted rates for the 3rd—8th guests and often there are special offers for children or families. Speak to a CruiseInsider expert to learn about the latest deals and to save on your next sailing. Please note: Infants under six months of age are not eligible for travel on Norwegian ships.

  • What are the options for family accomodations?

Whether your crew is small or large, there are incredible family-friendly options from multi-room Suites or interconnecting staterooms. All ships have Family Mini-Suites, Balconies, Oceanviews and Inside staterooms and most ships have 2-Bedroom Family Suites conveniently located near the kids' area. Speak to a CruiseInsider expert for more options and to plan an unforgettable family vacation with Norwegian Cruise Line.

  • What is a Cruisetour?

Taking a Cruisetour—a cruise with a land tour added on—a few days before or after your cruise gives you the time to really explore a destination, immerse yourself in the culture and broaden your opportunities for adventure giving you a one-of-a-kind experience you'll cherish for years to come. When CruiseInsider helps you plan your Cruisetours, we'll help handle your deluxe accommodations, transportation, flights, meals and more, including VIP access to local sites and one-of-a-kind events.

  • Can I make dinner reservations on board?

Reservations are never required or taken for the Main Dining Rooms, Buffet, Blue Lagoon, Cadillac Diner or O’Sheehans; however reservations are recommended for the specialty restaurants. Reservations may be made in advance with the help of a CruiseInsider expert, or on board you can visit the designated Restaurant Reservations Desk or at any specialty restaurant host desk during dinner service.
