Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is included in my cruise fare?

All fares include accommodations as booked, onboard meals* and entertainment. Fares are per person based on double occupancy and are cruise only, excluding air and transfers. Fares do not include Taxes, Fees and Port Expenses, gratuities, CunardCare travel protection or incidental charges such as laundry, bar expenses, spa and salon treatments, shore excursions, etc.

    * Excludes certain specialty areas of Kings Court and Lido in the evening and The Verandah where surcharges apply.

  • Are dogs welcome on Cunard Lines?

Queen Mary 2’s kennel programm is available on all Transatlantic Crossings between New York and Southampton in either direction, and is managed by a full-time Kennel Master who takes care of responsibilities such as feeding, walking and cleaning the ship’s 24 spacious kennels. Traveling dogs and cats also receive a complimentary gift pack. The kennels and adjacent indoor and outdoor walking areas are open throughout the day, enabling guests to spend significant time with their pets.

Reservations for the kennels may be made at time of booking, and are based on availability. All animals must be in compliance with the Pets Travel Scheme and in possession of a pet passport. To make kennel arrangements speak to a CruiseInsider expert.

  • How many formal nights are there?

Formal nights are one of the most distinctive parts of the Cunard experience and are a great opportunity to socialise with like-minded travelers. The number of formal nights varies by cruise and will be detailed in your pre-cruise documents; speak to your CruiseInsider advisor for more information. Cruises typically have two to five formal nights depending on length and number of sea days. Of course, single travelers are welcome at all events, and Gentleman Dance Hosts are on board to waltz and salsa with single ladies.

  • Are there medical facilities on board Cunard Line ships?

"Yes, but these basic medical facilities are equipped primarily to deal with illness and accidents and are not intended to provide ongoing treatment of pre-existing conditions. If you happen to be taken ill while onboard and your condition were so serious that you were required to get to shore, you would be placed into the care of port agents and a member of Cunard's team ashore would stay in contact with you and provide support if required.

Please note, however, that all medical services on board are charged for. If you anticipate a need for medical services aboard the ship, your special requirement must be advised to us in writing before your booking can be finalised. Because medical facilities are limited and shoreside medical care is not always readily available, Cunard will not be able to carry guests who will be 24 weeks or more pregnant by the end of the intended cruise.

  • What are the dining options aboard Cunard Line ships?

All ships offer alternative dining options, which are available to everyone:

    Queen Mary 2

Boardwalk Cafe, Carinthia Lounge, Golden Lion, Kings Court, Sir Samuel’s and The Verandah restaurant.

    Queen Victoria

Cafe Carinthia, Golden Lion, Lido restaurant, The Verandah restaurant and Winter Garden.

    Queen Elizabeth

Cafe Carinthia, Golden Lion, Lido restaurant, The Verandah restaurant and Garden Lounge.

In addition each ship will offer alternative dining cuisine each evening:

    • Italian, Indian, Pan Asian, Tex Mex and American Smokehouse menus are available at the Kings Court buffet on Queen Mary 2 or the Lido restaurant on Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth.
    • Advance bookings are required for The Verandah restaurant as well as the speciality dining options in the evening offered in the Lido and Kings Court respectively. These dining options carry a nominal charge.

Room service is also available 24 hours a day.

  • How long are the ships typically in port each day?

Unless stated otherwise, the ship will typically be in port for a full day. This means the call will be a minimum of 7 1/2 hours and a maximum of 11 hours. Some ports of call are for a half day, which will usually be a minimum of four hours and a maximum of seven hours. Times will vary according to the cruise and port. Late evening departures will leave port after 1 p.m. For full itineraries and port times please contact your CruiseInsider advisor.

Please note that the timings are guidelines only and the actual times may vary. Details of the estimated times of arrival and departure will be provided on board.

  • Will I need to carry money on board?

For your convenience, Cunard Line operates a “cash-free” system where you simply sign for all purchases using your personal identification key card, which is provided at check-in. This card is also your pass on and off the ship. It should be signed immediately and kept securely about your person at all times.

You may choose to settle your account by credit card, registered at check in, or with cash. If settling with cash you will, however, need to keep your account in credit at all times. Please note, Cunard Line does not accept Personal Checks, Travellers Checks or Pre-Paid Credit Cards on board.

  • Is there Internet connection on board?

Yes, you may access the internet in each ship’s Internet Centre. Guests with laptops may access the web via Cunard's wireless network, available in every stateroom as well as many public rooms. Charges do apply for these Wi-Fi services and internet packages are available for purchase.

  • Can I arrange to have someone handle my luggage to and from the ship?

Cunard offers White Star Luggage Service™, which is provided by a reputable carrier and is available exclusively to Cunard guests. Continental U.S. reservations should be secured at least 35 days prior to sailing date. Service can be requested within 35 days of sailing at an additional cost and is based on destination and availability. Please note you can purchase luggage transfer service home while on the ship. Additional terms and conditions apply. Speak to a CruiseInsider advisor to learn more about luggage transfers.
